Lockit Local started with a simple thought:
What if self-storage felt more like having an extra room in your home instead of a warehouse miles away?

We’re Amit and Michael – childhood friends from South Africa who moved to London and found ourselves cramming our lives into a flat share. Like most Londoners, we quickly realised that space isn’t just tight, it’s precious.

We looked into traditional storage, but what we found didn’t fit city living. It was pricey, out of the way, and seemed to assume everyone has a car. We needed something better: storage that was close, flexible and actually designed for life in a busy city.

That’s when the idea clicked. After COVID, the city was full of unused retail units, empty basements and quiet car parks. What if those overlooked spaces could be reimagined into local storage - secure, accessible and open whenever you need them?

Together with entrepreneur Howard Calvert, we turned that idea into reality. Today, Lockit Local is creating local self-storage across the UK - smart, secure hubs just around the corner from home.
